Inauguration celebration at the new school building in Kubinde

Finally a new project which has nothing to do with repairing the damage from the heavy earthquake!

During their spring project trip in late February Ralf Petschl, board member of Nepalhilfe Beilngries, and his wife Ingrid attended the inauguration celebration of the new school building in Kubinde in Sindhupalchok District. They were the guests of honour of the school committee. This is the first new building project initiated by Nepalhilfe after the earthquake. The new two-story building complements the existing school and has six classrooms for up to 240 students.

Villagers are keen to attend this sort of celebration, and so the schoolyard was packed to the last bit of space even before the guests of honour arrived. The Beilngriesers joined community leaders and members of parliament for a festive and various programs, which even featured a local political comedian parodying notables, much to the amusement of attendees’. An exchange of gifts concluded the colorful celebration.

To the delight of the school board, Ralf Petschl presented a symbolic cheque for 5,000 Euros to cover much-needed school furnishings. Overall, the construction effort cost about 120,000 Euros.
