School rehabilitation head for finish line

As is well known, the focus of project work for four years has been to rebuild and repair schools in Sindhupalchok District that were destroyed or damaged during the earthquake. The finish line has come into sight as the responsible architect and project director Sanjay Sapkota has scheduled all work to be completed by the end of October. This is despite heavy monsoon rains: Work on the remaining building sites is proceeding in two daily shifts. A large portion of the buildings has long been completed and commissioned for classroom work. Only a few are yet undergoing completion works such as in Sangachok, where planing, painting and paving is still ongoing. This is where the gigantic „Reconstruction“ project is to be wound up with a ceremony after having cost about 1.8 million euros.

Given that the necessary construction work only began in autumn of 2016 after a government-mandated hiatus, the work on the fourteen projects seems all the more impressive. This brings an effort full circle as it was only the generosity of the sponsors that made it possible. Thanks to all who made a contribution in whatever way!

At the Beilngries charity, planners are now assessing financing options for the construction of a proposed day-care centre for mentally and physically handicapped individuals. It is to be built in Lubhu, site of Shaligram Children’s Hospital. Turning this vision into reality will require continued generosity on the part of sponsors.

Sales of the „Himalaya 2020“ calendar, available from October, and fundraising appearances by > Peter Habeler (on October 10th) and > Harry and Gabriele Neumann should provide additional financing.
